Why Puglia Has Become One of the World’s Top Wedding Destinations
In recent years, Puglia has rapidly grown into one of the most sought-after wedding destinations in the world, and it’s easy to see why. This enchanting region in Southern Italy offers an incredible variety of landscapes: stunning coastlines with crystal-clear waters, rolling countrysides dotted with centuries-old olive trees, vineyards, charming medieval villages, and traditional masserie (ancient farmhouses).
Puglia is also celebrated for its delicious cuisine, fine wines, and the warm hospitality of its people, all of which create the perfect atmosphere for a truly unforgettable wedding experience.
From the northern tip of the region—Vieste, the Tremiti Islands, and Mattinata—through iconic towns like Alberobello, Ostuni, Monopoli, and Polignano a Mare, down to the southernmost gems of the Salento peninsula such as Santa Maria di Leuca, Otranto, and Gallipoli, the region is packed with breathtaking locations ideal for weddings or romantic getaways.
Many wedding photographers and couples have fallen in love with Puglia’s poetic and romantic settings: historic masserie surrounded by majestic olive groves, golden wheat fields swaying under the sun, the vivid colors of the Adriatic and Ionian seas, and the iconic whitewashed towns perched on cliffs.
The entire region is steeped in history and culture, from ancient Roman and Greek ruins to medieval castles, churches, and stone villages, all of which offer picture-perfect backdrops for your wedding day.
One of the most distinctive features of Puglia is its traditional architecture, especially the use of “tufo pugliese”, a light limestone historically used in local buildings. When painted with white lime, it gives towns like Ostuni (known as the White City) their characteristic glow, nperfect for timeless and elegant wedding photos.
I’m fortunate to live at the entrance of the Valle d’Itria, a magical area in the heart of Puglia, and through my work as a wedding photographer, I’ve had the chance to discover many incredible wedding venues across this beautiful land.
One of my proudest moments? A photo I took, featuring a beautifully decorated vintage Volkswagen Beetle (Maggiolino) on a countryside road, was published by Vogue UK, a true honor and a testament to the timeless charm of weddings in Puglia.
